Here is a picture of two antennas tested for the Army's Land Warrior system.  The antenna on the left is a folded monopole; the one on the right is a top-loaded monopole.

Here is the antenna mounted on a soldier's helmet and under a radome.  The helmet is made primarily of Kevlar (r).  The radome is made from ULTEM (also called polyetherimide).
